Optical Effects Acheived with Modern Meterials....

Natural effects achieved utilizing Initial ZI....
(and yes, the patient requested the diastema as she had one her whole life before her fall - we all loved the final it was if she never fell and broke her teeth))

Surface Texture

A shot from an upcoming article for GC's One body System. When Only using one powder and lustre pastes one must put more effort into other variables that will help the restoration appear more vital. Optical illusions can be achieved by playing with variables such as color theory and texture.

Photoelasticss and Ice.......

Contact Lens Feldspathic Chip

This patient came to us after ortho treatment. When the brackets were removed so was his old bonding on number 9. The patient finally came in two years after his braces were removed with the old bonding to veneer tooth number 9 - For this case we decided to veneer with feldspathic porcelain utilizing the refractory technique to pick up all the natural color from his natural abutment. We like this technique as we can get a veneer as thin as 0.1mm giving a see through (contact lens) effect - Our Dr. made the finish line in the middle third of the tooth so we could keep his natural healthy tissue - We achieved this result by overextending the margin and had our Dr. finish the ceramics right to the tooth using silicone's and dialights intra-orally after bonding.

Photoelastics....

Playing with light....

Photography is a big passion of ours - we just got some new studio lights and had a little practice session today - Our goal is to document Dentistry from start to finish - From the bench to the mouth in a unique way that will raise awareness to our beautiful field! Showcasing portraits will help motivate our clients when they see how beautiful restorations look in overall harmony with their surroundings... Creating teeth is a unique craft, and it should be seen in the same light as other great crafts such as high fashion and design..

Check back soon to see our after portraits of recent cases.

Just picked up a tattoo tracing box - It allows for really creative photographs -
Go get one, and go get creative!!!!!

DAS WAX-UP

We cant tell you how big we are on wax-ups! They will guide you through the whole case and leave no guess work. Wax ups are the ultimate in planning and achieving the ultimate goal of satisfying your Patients and Doctors -

When looking at all our past cases we can firmly say that the cases that had the most success had a wax-up (blueprint ) to guide us.

Lab Shots -

Picking up more and more accounts as time goes on we are shipping more work out of state/country. We work in-house so we are used to seeing most of our patients. Although this is great for business on a personal note we get less photos for observation. So we are starting a new post focusing on our cases from the bench - Hopefully we can get the clinical shots from our Docs to showcase them as well -

Set Screw Practice Technique.

Thanks to my teachers Mr. Okabe/Endo- for showing me this technique - Its a very useful technique for fabricating anterior custom Abutments - This allows you to practice, before dealing with the expensive components involved in implant restorations with set screws....

Bisque Try-in

A case we're wrapping up...
Just shipped for a bisque Try-in. With a couple of bakes we still have play to make any adjustments necessary after try-in to capture proper form without compromising the overall quality of our ceramic layering.
Check back soon for Final shots -

Hand Milled....

While we updated a while back that we loved the new technology surrounding ceramic abutments, we are still using tried and true metal abutments on a daily basis. The consistency in design and fit are second to none as you have total control in the design and fabrication of your work. With the use of our Amann Girbach Af350 milling machine we get hand made machined abutments that not only look beautiful but stand the test of time with the results they yield...

Final Shots -

We posted this case a while ago, but just saw the patient today to finish up - after wearing it for a couple of weeks, and a clean radio-graph we finished the case by filling all the access holes with Matching pink Gradia. This looked really clean and after polish we couldn't even see the access holes!

Concept Posters for GC Initial Campaign...

These are a few sample posters for a Gc Initial campaign. We are still working out the final designs but thought GC's design team did a great job and wanted to share and get some feedback. They are going to do a pretty big run of the prints so we want to pick the best ones.

Any feedback would be great!

The Digital Try-In

This is a concept I have been playing with for a while - The digital Try-In (determining Color accuracy from the bench) We usually get to see our patients, but as of late we have been picking up more and more out of state (country) clients. This at first posed a problem for matching rather difficult cases. With this concept we have had much success. All you need is a preparation picture and with that you can super-impose your restorations from the bench right into the mouth to judge and alter your ceramic selection. The model will give you good information for determining form, and this concept will help you nail color - with this information you will not only please your patients, but also learn whatever ceramic system you use in a more efficient way.

It of course is also necessary to have the patients concerns about the case. This patient did not like the gray at the cervical and desired her centrals to be a bit brighter then her existing dentition.

VIVA LA LAYERING!

I have had at least 5 calls this month from sales reps trying to sell me cad/cam machines for full contour crowns - We are only a three person lab and layering porcelain is our passion. We are embracing technology for all its benefits, but press a button and have a crown? We'd rather layer our restorations and have personal satisfaction. Who knows what the future will bring but for now we Layer!!!!!

ALL Ceramic....

For years now we have been choosing metal as our abutment choice materiel.
We have been really taking advantage of today's technology and have been dabbling with Zirconia abutments for our anterior cases. We are very impressed with the capabilities of Zirconia when the situation is ideal for all ceramic. Keep checking back for some clinical application shots.

OverDenture Hybrid

Heres a case we just wrapped up - This was treatment planned for all ceramic, but because of tough times in the economy the patient decided to go with this treatment plan. Just wanted to show that one can get very creative artistically with over-dentures as well as all ceramic cases. With a wax try-in for esthetics, occlusion, and hygiene we had a good guideline to follow. Thanks to Jonny from CDL for his support!

EVOLUTION...

Just playing with some teeth and observed through photos some interesting images - Breaking a tooth down with photography it is very clear to see all aspects of a natural tooth - We can clearly see a tooth being evolved from pulp - the final form. This becomes critical when realizing your restorations with ceramics - from this study we can clearly see that their has to be many considerations when layering ceramic. Looking deep into nature you can see what colors lye and replicate through observation. Think of the pulp as your coping and go from their!

I love seeing old patients when they come back for hygiene. Today while I was working the hygienist told me a patient wanted to see me and say Hi. I restored this patient a couple of years ago and it made my day to see how much she grew and came into herself with her new teeth!!!

Remembering our past...

When we think of Esthetics today, Dentures are typically forgotten about. I strongly believe that in order to have a firm grasp on Esthetic concepts today dealing with all ceramics, one must have a full understanding of Dentures. Setting teeth will give technicians a strong understanding of esthetics, tooth relationships, and occlusion. Once we have a full understanding of these concepts, the sky is the limit when it comes to restoring with all ceramics!

No Prep. Feldspathic Chips

Here's another AMAZING case from Emma - She really mastered this technique. In this case the patient wanted to close all the spaces between her lower anteriors. The patient was presented with the option of orthodontics, but declined. So we decided to do no preparation feldspathic chips to close the spaces. What a result! (sorry to my orthodontist colleagues) With the utilization of skill and materials we feel confident with this technique - we used GC Initial MC for this case. Click on the picture to enlarge.

White and Pink Fixed

Just wrapped this case up - the patient came to us do to a motorcycle accident. He lost much bone, but with the use of pink porcelain we achieved a pretty good result with proper hygiene access, and pretty good estethics for his situation - Upper screw retained bridge - the lower was a fun experience - Custom abutment and the creation of two metal ceramic crowns on the one coping, so much fun!!! Click on the picture to enlarge.

I had a great opportunity to speak in front of some of my mentors in the field of Dentistry. It was a great experience, and very humbling. It was very strange to look out in the audience at many people i have studied under, such as Klaus Müterthies, Dr. Ed Mclaren, and my father Dr. Barry Polansky. Cant wait to do it again!!
